R. Bruce Sundrud -Professor of Biology at Harrisburg Area Community College- and Kris Hueftle -Instructor of Health and Sciences at Florence-Darlington Technical College- in their article, Essential Analogies in Human Anatomy & Physiology, suggests analogies to human anatomy so the student can learn the material better. They support this suggestion by providing 18 different parts of human anatomy, and then relating each part to an analogy that a student would most likely be able to understand. Their purpose is to provide students with analogies in order for them to understand the material in a way that the students can relate to. They establish a formal relationship with the readers, who they expect to at least know some of the basics of the concepts that they provide, such as educators, by their usage of scientific terms.
