Annotated Bibliography: American Liver Foundation-Liver Transplant

The American Liver Foundation's article on liver transplants discusses why the liver is such an important organ and describes what the human liver looks like. Because the article is about liver transplants, a generalized summary is given about what is a liver transplant, how liver donations become available, when is the transplant needed, as well as surprising facts and statistics the average person may not know.

This article is helpful for people who may want to become liver donors, or people who are in need of a liver transplant, but does not know how or what to do in order to receive/donate a liver. Although other sources do present details about liver transplants, the American Liver Foundation is dedicated specifically to liver transplants, whereas other sources have dedications to many different organ donations. The American Liver Foundation was founded in 1976 by the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. The goal of the American Liver Foundation is to provide knowledge and resources for people who want to donate or are in need of a liver transplant.

The article on liver transplants is very helpful in providing information I needed in order to gain more knowledge on the how, where, what, and why a liver transplant is important. After learning that over 16,000 Americans are still on the waiting list for a liver transplant, I was taken aback and realizing that people need to gather up the courage and become organ donors to help save others. The American Liver Foundation is a great source for people who want to learn more about liver transplants and for people who are in need or want to become organ donors.
